McCain Endorsement to Happen in New Hampshire

Wednesday, 04 January 2012 10:50 AM EST

John McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential nominee, will endorse Mitt Romney today in New Hampshire, according to a person with knowledge of the plans who wasn’t authorized to speak publicly.

McCain, the Arizona senator who won the New Hampshire primary in 2000 in 2008, is announcing his support a day after Romney narrowly won in the Iowa caucuses that kicked off the Republican contest. Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, is pressing to win neighboring New Hampshire’s Jan. 10 primary by enough to put him on the path to the nomination.

Romney finished eight votes ahead of former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum in Iowa’s caucuses. Each candidate received about 25 percent of more than 122,000 votes cast.
