A winter storm in the East has disrupted air and road travel and apparently contributed to a multiple-vehicle crash that closed a long stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
At least two people were injured in the crashes early Friday in the hills of central Pennsylvania.
A spokesman says the New York City area's three major airports have canceled more than 1,000 flights. Traffic at the Philadelphia airport was picking up as the snow tapered off.
Roads are snow-clogged or flooded from Maine southward. Forty miles of Interstate 84 in New York state closed for five hours.
Rescuers used snowmobiles and all-terrain vehicles to reach stranded motorists.
