Armed police gathered Tuesday evening outside the Apple Store in Amsterdam amid police reports that an armed assailant in the store is holding at least one hostage,there.
Dutch police said in a tweet that “somebody with a firearm is in the store, police are at the location with many (specialized) units to bring the situation under control.”
Two hours later, several of the hostages were seen leaving the Apple store, located on a central square in Amsterdam, according to the Dutch police. In a tweet, the police added they didn't want to elaborate on the situation.
Police cleared the square and asked neighbors to remain inside and not come outside to watch.
Images circulating on social media show a man in camouflage pants and a black hoodie brandishing what looks like a gun holding another man hostage inside the Apple store.
A spokesman for Apple in the Netherlands could not be reached by phone and did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment.
