Former congressman Anthony Weiner, who resigned from public office in 2011 amid a sexting scandal, said Tuesday he would un-retire from politics if someone named Trump decided to run for the mayor of New York City.
When asked by Big Apple television station Fox 5 about Donald Trump Jr.'s potential political future and whether or not he'd mount a challenge, Weiner — a Democrat who is married to Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin — sounded off.
"Here's what I got for you. You think I don't care about Fox 5? Here's what I'm about to do for you," Weiner said in an interview at the Democratic National Convention. "The only thing that would make me come out of retirement and run for mayor again is if anyone named Trump ran.
"I would come out of retirement just to beat him like a rented mule and then I'd turn the keys back over to de Blasio."
Donald Trump, who became the Republican party's presidential nominee last week, told Fox his son doesn't have plans to run for elected office.
"Donald Trump Jr. has no intention of running for mayor of New York, but I was the one who predicted Anthony Weiner would flame out and not be able to run for mayor," Trump told the station. "People were amazed at how insightful I was."
Trump Jr. also weighed in on Weiner's remarks via Twitter:
Weiner appeared on "The Late Show" Monday night and
was booed by the live audience when he suggested host Stephen Colbert had something to do with Trump's rise.
