Yang Left Out of Sept. Debate

Democratic candidate for president Andrew Yang has failed to qualify for the September debate after the Democratic National Committee rejected a poll he submitted, The Hill reports.

Although Yang received support from the necessary 130,000 different donors, candidates are required to submit at least four polls in which they received at least 2%. However, the DNC emailed Yang on Tuesday to inform him that two of the polls he sent in count as one poll because they were each partly conducted by NBC. Because of this, the DNC claims he failed to reach the four-poll requirement.

"Candidates may only count one NBC-sponsored national poll released during the current qualification period," DNC senior adviser Mary Beth Cahill wrote in the email, which was obtained by The Hill.

Seven candidates have qualified for the September Democratic debate: Former Vice President Joe Biden; Sens. Cory Booker, D-N.J.; Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif., South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg; and former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rouke.

The Yang campaign had issued a statement Monday announcing he had qualified for the September debate, but a spokesperson for the DNC confirmed the letter was sent to Yang.
