A news site in Arlington, Va., says a story on its website has garnered more than 6,000 views from an internal Amazon site devoted to the company’s HQ2 search.
The high-profile bidding war for Amazon’s $5 billion investment has entered its final stages, and the Washington, D.C. area appears to have an edge over the more than 200 cities and counties that initially expressed interest as three sites in the greater Washington area were included in the list of 20 finalists for the company’s massive second headquarters.
Northern Virginia, which includes Arlington, is one.
The article on ARLnow.com that saw a huge spike in traffic was titled, “County Wins Top Environmental Award from U.S. Green Building Council,” and said Arlington County was named a Platinum level community by USGBC under its new LEED for Communities program. But it was published in December, and was a top read on the site last week.
“The vast majority of the traffic to the page over the past week that can be tracked came from what appears to be an internal Amazon.com page devoted to its HQ2 search,” says the article.
“No other page on ARLnow.com has a similar level of traffic coming from Amazon.”
