The New York City Police Department isn't shedding tears over actor Alec Baldwin's lament that New York isn't for him anymore and he longs to live in a Los Angeles area gated community.
New York police sources told the
New York Post that they won't miss the actor, if he follows through on his promise to leave the city.
"I say: Don't let the door hit you on the way out of the city," said one source, who is familiar with Baldwin from his Greenwich Village neighborhood.
"I don't like the guy," he added. "It's a pain in the ass to deal with him every time he blows his top at the press and we're called in to clean up the mess."
However, the source said that Baldwin "knows how to play the game with the cops and not piss us off," but he's not sure if the actor is "sincere in showing respect to the police."
"Maybe it's sincere and because of his upbringing," he said. "Or maybe he's just not trying to get arrested."
Another source said that Baldwin "has a weird, almost paranoid personality."
"Good riddance!" he added.
The source criticized Baldwin for being surprised by the public attention after choosing a career that puts him in the public eye.
"He chose a career to be a public figure, and he acts surprised whenever the media wants to take his photo or his wife's," the source said.
"Nothing will change for him if he moves to L.A. The press will hound him out there, too."
Baldwin told
New York magazine Sunday that he wants to reduce his interaction with the public, which he says isn't possible in New York, where he has lived since 1979.
"I probably have to move out of New York. I just can't live in New York anymore," he said. "Everything I hated about L.A. I'm beginning to crave. L.A. is a place where you can live behind a gate, you get in a car, your interaction with the public is minimal. I used to hate that. But New York has changed."
