A unique flying car could become reality in as little as five years.

Airbus is developing a fully electric vehicle, called Pop.Up, that can connect to a module of four-spinning rotors and lift passengers above traffic congestion and deliver them to their destination, The Telegraph reports.

"I think it will be incredible," said Mathias Thomsen from Airbus.

The company unveiled the vehicle in concept form at the Geneva Motor Show.

"You're in your capsule, you don't have to go in and out, it's integrated, it's seamless, it will be the most pleasant way of getting around town, getting to the airport. I think it will be irresistibly nice," he added.

Thomsen said the technology to produce the personal transport aerial vehicle should be available in five to ten years.

Of course, developers will also have to first clear the way to allow the passenger vehicles to fly over busy cities, the newspaper pointed out.

The vehicle has a two-seat carbon-fiber cabin, Fox News reported.

An onboard system will determine whether it is best for passengers to ride along on four wheels or be lifted into the sky by the air module, according to the news network.

"Easily the coolest part of this shared mobility system is the air module's vertical takeoff and landing capability," Fox said.
