Rep. Schiff Files to Run for Feinstein's Senate Seat

By    |   Tuesday, 05 December 2023 11:45 AM EST

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., has officially filed the necessary paperwork to run for the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein's open Senate seat in the Golden State.

Schiff said in a post on X, formerly twitter, that "it's official - I just filed my paperwork and will be on the ballot to be California's next United States Senator. 92 days until the March 5 primary - see you on the campaign trail!"

Schiff had first said in January, before Feinstein passed away in September at the age of 90, that he would be running for her Senate seat, according to the Daily Call.

He will be competing against fellow House Democrat Reps. Katie Porter and Barbara Lee, as well as Eric Early, a Republican attorney, for the open seat. All run in one primary and the highest two vote-getters advance to the general election in November.

Laphonza Butler, who in October was named by Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom to complete Feinstein's remaining term, has already said she will not seek election to a full term in 2024.
