Vermont's Republican governor has signed a bill that protects abortion and "sterilization" rights in the Green Mountain State.
As The Hill reported, Phil Scott signed the measure Monday after it passed in the State Legislature.
"Like many Vermonters, I have consistently supported a woman's right to choose," Scott said. "This legislation affirms what is already allowable in Vermont — protecting reproductive rights and ensuring those decisions remain between a woman and her health care provider."
The bill ensures abortions will remain legal, along with sterilization procedures that some adults choose to have. It also protects doctors and healthcare workers from legal action if they perform abortions.
Several states in recent weeks have enacted laws that outlaw abortion in some or all forms, legislation that goes against the 1973 Supreme Court case Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion nationwide.
