Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden poked fun at President Donald Trump for his comments that he looks "young and vibrant" next to the 76-year-old former vice president and that he can beat him in a general election.
"Look, if he looks young and vibrant compared to me, I should probably go home," Biden said during an interview on ABC's "The View." "Look, everybody knows who Donald Trump is. The best way to judge me is to watch. See if I have the energy and the capacity."
He laughed off Trump's nickname of "Sleepy Joe," commenting that it's the "first time" he's been called that.
"Usually it's the other end, 'Hyper Joe,'" he said. "I remember being criticized when I wrote the Violence Against Women Act, that was we were moving [quickly]."
While making his announcement Thursday, Biden said he wanted to run because he fears Trump's influence on the United States, but on Friday, he added that the next generation will have more change "in the next eight to 10 years" than over the past three decades.
He also said he would not commit to running for just one term in office, even though he admitted he may only get one term and he thinks it's appropriate to ask about his age.
Also on Friday, Biden stressed that he asked President Barack Obama not to endorse him, even though he is a close personal friend and a "man of great honor and discipline."
"I didn't want it to look like he was putting his thumb on the scale here," said Biden. "I'm going to do this based on who I am, not by the president going out and trying to say this is the guy you should be with. That's why I asked him not to."
