Florida GOP freshman Rep. Allen West has at least 10 examples of how President Barack Obama’s economic policy has flopped — and it might behoove the moderator to quiz him about them during Wednesday night’s debate.
“My simple little thing that I carry with me is my data cards — and there are 10 economic indicators there,” West told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren Tuesday night. “Those indicators look at unemployment, gas prices, debt per person, insurance premiums, the amount of food-stamp recipients, the Americans that are going [into] poverty.”
And these are the criteria upon which Obama should be judged, West said.
“The American people know that things are not going well for them — and that’s how we should be evaluating the president,” he added. “And that’s what the president should be talking about, as far as the failures of his policies.”
A great question to ask Obama at the debate Wednesday night is why the number of food-stamp recipients has jumped 46 percent under his watch, West says.
“Is it that your policies are failing?” he asked rhetorically. “When we see that we have 23 million Americans that are unemployed, underemployed, or discouraged workers — and that you've had about 9.3 million more Americans going into poverty — are we creating the conditions and the policies for people to get work or are we driving them to a dependency society?”
The problem is that people aren’t connecting the dots, West said.
“No one is really tying that back to the policies. Everyone keeps saying the president's policies have failed, but they're not articulating why.”
