Wall to wall negative ads designed to reduce support for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump are in the making at the hands of what has become the Republican establishment cartel.
Numerous campaign finance entities working with mainstream GOP hacks are scheming to purchase airtime for a barrage of attack ads against their own party’s front-runner.
A portion of the hit piece advertising may begin prior to Super Tuesday; however, the negative onslaught will most likely continue beyond the pivotal day.
The GOP establishment appears to be lowering itself to the level of the Democratic Party at its worst and even looks to be stealing a page from the Democrat's longstanding dirty playbook.
There is an aura of desperation that accompanies the last ditch effort as those who strive to hold on to their positions of power work to undermine the popular candidate’s image.
Democrats were successful at reworking Mitt Romney’s reputation, and GOP insiders apparently hope to do the same with Trump. To this end, campaign finance entities are already buying up valuable political airtime.
The American Future Fund (AFF), a non-profit ad buying vehicle, will supposedly be running advertisements that feature individuals who claim to have been victims of a business venture of the front-runner.
The AFF’s anti-Trump ads will be part of a nationwide television and digital purchase, which will cost “multiple millions,” the group’s spokesperson, Stuart Roy, told The Hill.
The entity’s funders are not disclosed because the IRS considers the group a “social welfare organization” that can keep its donors private.
Our Principles PAC, a super PAC dedicated to defeating Trump, is led by former senior adviser to Romney, Katie Packer, and is reportedly implementing a national ad campaign that focuses on the past hiring practices of Trump’s business units.
Conservative Solutions, the super PAC in support of Rubio, has launched numerous attack ads against Trump; the PAC is being funded by a new cash injection of more than $10 million.
The outpouring of negative advertising seems to be in sync with the latest Trump attacks that were launched by Rubio during the recent CNN debate.
In another indication of the outright guile on the part of the GOP establishment, one of the key figures of the Republican elite has been talking about continuing the negative advertising against Trump even if the real estate magnate should secure the nomination.
Astoundingly, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has reportedly given the green light for GOP senators to run anti-Trump ads in the general election.
According to the New York Times, McConnell is telling senators that they are free to run ads against Trump if they feel he is hurting their own campaigns, if they need to create space between the candidate and themselves during a re-election cycle.
According to his colleagues, McConnell said that if Trump secures the nomination, they [the GOP establishment] will “drop him like a hot rock.”
