Hemorrhoids: Can They Be Prevented?

Hemorrhoids are swollen and inflamed clusters of veins in the anus and lower rectum. Hemorrhoids do not cause problems until they start bleeding and swell. Hemorrhoids, also known as piles or hemroids, act as natural cushions for protecting the anal skin from passage of stool. However, when inflamed, hemroids can cause problems. Hemorrhoids may be internal or protrude out of the rectum to outside the anus. Hemorrhoids are of two types: internal hemorrhoids and external hemorrhoids. Either internal or external, hemorrhoids patients experience symptoms like bleeding, pain, swelling, and inflammation.
 
Causes of Hemorrhoids
 
Causes of hemorrhoids include medical conditions that lead to hemroids. Medical conditions that increase abdominal pressure like liver disease can be among causes of hemroids.

Heredity, age, and pregnancy can also causes of hemroids. Increased pressure on the veins during pregnancy is among common causes. Age can be one of the causes as the tissues supporting the anus and rectum weaken with age.

Chronic constipation and straining during bowel movements are associated with causes of hemorrhoids. Sitting on the toilet for long can be among the causes.

hronic diarrhea and anal intercourse may be some other associated causes of hemroids.

A diet low in fibers can be among the causes of hemroids.

Obesity is a factor identified among the causes of hemroids.
 
Remedies of Hemorrhoids
 
Home remedies can help treat hemorrhoids. These remedies are effective as well as inexpensive. Some natural remedies are listed below:
 
Exercising can be among the effective remedies for hemorrhoids. Daily aerobic exercise for 20 to 30 minutes can help. Exercise is very useful for stimulating the bowel function.
 
A warm water bath can be among useful remedies for hemorrhoids. It provides relief from itching and irritation. A hipbath with warm or cold water for 20 minutes after a bowel movement two to three times daily is recommended.

Increasing fiber in the diet is among the beneficial remedies for hemorrhoids. Patients can take fiber supplements. These supplements help in decreasing bleeding and inflammation. Start gradually but increase fibers in your daily diet to 25 to 30 grams.
 
Over-the counter-creams treating hemorrhoids can be effective home remedies. They contain a local anesthetic that soothes pain. However, do not use them in excess as they can cause the skin to atrophy.

Ice packs are simple remedies to relieve hemorrhoids. Ice can reduce pain as well as swelling. Place an ice pack on the affected area for a few minutes.
 
Drinking plenty of fluids is one of the easiest remedies. It also prevents constipation. You can know if you are drinking enough fluids when the color of urine becomes clear like water.
