A California farm is recalling more than 3,000 cases of salad blends due to possible salmonella contamination.

The greens were distributed by Taylor Farms Retail to Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Missouri, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Washington, and Puerto Rico. The salad mixes were sold in various supermarkets, the Food and Drug Administration said.

The voluntary recall follows a random test on bagged spinach by the Washington State Department of Agriculture. No illnesses due to the salads have been reported.

A dozen different products, including romaine lettuce and spinach are being recalled under brand names Fresh Selections, H-E-B, Marketside and Taylor Farms, with "best by" dates between October 18 and21.

Salmonella can be fatal to those with weakened immune systems, such as young children or the elderly. Signs of infection include fever, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
