Do Statins Reduce Deaths in Healthy People?

Monday, 21 June 2010 09:29 AM EDT

Question: Do statins really reduce deaths in healthy people?

Dr. Brownstein's Answer:

According to one study, you would have to treat 200 patients for 1.9 years with Crestor in order to prevent one death. For those who have an elevated CRP level, I suggest they search for why the CRP is elevated and treat it. Cleaning up the diet, eliminating refined foods, drinking adequate amounts of water, treating thyroid problems, and taking vitamin C are all effective at lowering CRP levels.

These ideas are less expensive, do not promote adverse effects, and are a good long-term strategy to helping the body avoid chronic illness such as heart disease.
