Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele should stop trying to deflect criticism for the problems facing his organization and accept the blame himself, according to Washington Post columnist Kathleen Parker.
Following revelations that nearly $2,000 of the RNC’s money was spent at a California strip club, Steele’s chief of staff resigned and his consulting firm severed ties with Steele.
Then during an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning America,” Steele maintained that being an African-American has magnified his travails. But even African-Americans are displeased with Steele’s performance, Parker observes.
“Whether it’s the poor staffer who approved $1,900 for a strip club or the chief of staff who got the boot, it’s always someone else’s fault,” Parker writes. “Mr. Steele needs to face the truth and set himself — and his party — free.”
