Nearly 4 in 5 CEOs think their workforce will continue working remotely even after the coronavirus pandemic ends, according to a new poll.
A global survey from firm PwC released Tuesday indicates that most business leaders think the shift to a remote workforce will stay in place for a while.
Poll results show:
- 78% of CEOs say remote work is "here to stay."
- 21% of CEOs think the shift to work from home is temporary.
- 54% of CEOs feel the shift toward a gig economy over traditional jobs will continue.
- 53% of CEOs worldwide say they believe global economic growth will decline in the next 12 months.
- 62% of CEOs in the U.S. say they expect an economic downturn in the next 12 months.
With many employees still working from home, CFOs are less concerned with productivity loss than they were two months ago, according to poll results. In this survey, 26% of CFOs say they expect a loss in productivity from employees working from home, which is a decrease from nearly half who felt that way two months prior.
The number of CEOs who said they are “very confident” in their 12-month growth prospects dropped to 27%, the lowest level since 2009, according to the poll results.
“Investing in employees — their safety, their wellbeing and their skills — is absolutely key to economic recovery,” PwC UK’s chairman Kevin Ellis said.
PwC polled 3,500 of its clients from across the world between June 15 and July 3.
