The Jewish National Fund will pay former President Bill Clinton $500,000 for a 45-minute speech in honor of Israeli President Shimon Peres’ 90th birthday,
Politico reports.
Guests had been asked to pay slightly more than $800 to attend the event, to be held in Rehovot, Israel, at the Peres Academic Center on July 17. But Peres balked and said he would not attend if the event turned into a fundraiser, according to the
Times of Israel.
The $500,000 will be paid to Clinton’s William J. Clinton Foundation, which centers on issues involving environmental protection and public health, the news site reported. The money was transferred to Clinton nearly a year ago.
Clinton also will be honored in Israel later this month, receiving the President’s Award from Peres on June 19.
