Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said he plans to meet with an Iranian dissident group that is seeking to oust Iran's current regime.

"I'm going to Berlin this weekend with a group that could replace the Iranian government," Giuliani told "Fox & Friends" on Wednesday.

"It's a group run by a woman. They believe in a constitutional democracy. They fought for constitutional democracy. When they didn't get it, 120,000 of them were killed by the Ayatollah. There are alternatives in the Muslim world to these theocratic maniacs."

Giuliani said the group was called MEK, which stands for the Mujahedeen-e-Khalq. The Council on Foreign Relations described the group as "a controversial Iranian resistance group."

The organization was once listed as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) by the United States for its alleged killing of U.S. personnel in Iran during the 1970s, the CFR said, and for its ties to former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

After the group lost in a power struggle against the Ayatollah, it moved to France and, ultimately, Iraq, where it renounced violence in the early 2000s.

In 2012, the group was delisted as a terrorist organization by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, according to The New York Times.

The group has claimed responsibility for uncovering Iran's nuclear program in 2002 and 2003, according to Mediaite.
