Ralph Peters: Israelis Fear US President for First Time

By    |   Thursday, 19 March 2015 06:25 PM EDT

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's comeback win on Tuesday shows that the country's citizens are afraid of President Barack Obama's actions, says retired Lt. Col. Ralph Peters.

Peters, appearing Thursday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto," said that Obama administration meddling turned Israelis sour, and even some who don't like Netanyahu ended up voting for him.

Netanyahu wasn't polling well, but after Obama snubbed him during a trip to Washington earlier this month to address Congress, he began to turn around, Peters said.

"They overplayed their hand so badly that the Israeli people, even those who don't much like Bibi, turned this from an economy-based election to a security-based election," he said. "Obama's accommodation with Iran at any cost is very frightening."

In Washington, the Iran nuclear deal is a policy issue, but in Israel it is a matter of survival, Peters said.

"And that's what this election told us, that the people of Israel, for the first time ever, fear an American president," he said.
