JERUSALEM (AP) — Israeli police say a Palestinian stabbed two officers in Jerusalem before he was shot and killed.
Spokeswoman Luba Samri said the officers were stabbed from behind in their upper body and evacuated to a hospital.
The violence Friday morning occurred at the Damascus Gate, a main entrance to Jerusalem's Old City that has been the scene of numerous Palestinian attacks over the past few months. Israel has significantly beefed up security in the area in response.
The assault was the latest in months of near-daily Palestinian attacks, mostly stabbing, shooting and vehicular attacks that have killed 28 Israelis since mid-September. During that time some 163 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire, the majority said by Israel to be attackers. The rest died in clashes.
