CAIRO (AP) — An Egyptian human rights activist and lawyer says she has been arrested in relation to an investigation involving top rights campaigners accused of illegally receiving foreign funds for their NGOs.

Azza Soliman said by phone that police presented her with an arrest warrant at her home Wednesday.

The move comes as human rights advocates complain of being increasingly targeted by authorities with legal procedures, asset freezes and travel bans, as part of a larger crackdown on dissent. Since the 2013 military ouster of an elected Islamist president, authorities have jailed thousands of people, mainly Islamists but also leading secular and liberal activists.

Last month, the Egyptian parliament approved a new law regulating non-governmental organizations that gives security agencies extensive power over the financing and activities of NGOs and rights groups.
