Ofer, was attacked by men carrying metal bars and axes after stepping outside of his home early Friday morning. His wife Monique fled the ambush and has been hospitalized.

Israeli officials said press reports suggesting that robbery was the motive were unfounded, and Israeli officials believe the murder was most likely a terrorist attack.

In a weekend interview from her hospital bed, Monique Ofer told Israel’s Channel 10 that her husband “was an incredible man.”

“I feel like I’ve lost the most precious thing in my life,” she added, according to the Post.

A few days before the Ofer slaying, the Post reported that figures released by the Shin Bet — the Israel Security Agency — showed there had been upsurge in Palestinian attacks on Israeli civilian targets in the West Bank and east Jerusalem, which rose from 93 in August to 129 last month.

Earlier this month, a 9-year-old girl was shot and wounded outside her home in the West Bank settlement of Psagot, the Los Angeles Times reported.
