Israeli Casualty of Border Clash Buried

Wednesday, 04 August 2010 11:14 AM EDT

Lt.-Col. Dov “Barry” Harari was buried in the military cemetery in Netanya on Wednesday, at a funeral attended by hundreds.

Eight lieutenant colonels carried the coffin of Harari, 45, who was killed in the border clash with the Lebanese army near Kibbutz Misgav Am.

Harari's daughter Noy eulogized her father, saying: "Father, I don't believe that I won't see you anymore, that I won't hug and kiss you, that I won't laugh with you and at you, that you won't see Shir and I in [IDF] uniform in a few months, that you won't marry us off and see your grandchildren. I don't believe that I won't have a father anymore."

On Tuesday, dozens of friends and relatives crowded the Harari family home in Netanya to comfort his widow and children.

It was to have been the last reserve stint after 27 years of service for Harari, and the reserve battalion commander was expecting to be sent home soon to spend the rest of the summer vacation with his wife and four children.

Harari worked in the family business, selling building material. According to family and friends, though, there was nothing he loved more than the army, and he never shied away from a reserve call-up.
