Russia's invasion of Ukraine might ultimately cost Vladimir Putin his life, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy predicted.
Eventually, war fatigue will inspire Russians to remove Putin, Zelenskyy says in a new documentary, Business Insider reported.
"There will certainly be a moment when the fragility of Putin's regime is felt in Russia," Zelenskyy said, according to a Ukrayinska Pravda translation. "Then carnivores will eat the carnivore. It is very important, and they will need a reason to justify this. They will recall the words of Komarov, of Zelenskyy. They will remember. They will find a reason to kill the killer.
"Will it work? Yes. When? I don't know."
The documentary was filmed as Russia's so-called "special military operation" entered its second year in war-torn Ukraine.
Not only has Russia failed to secure a quick and decisive victory, but worldwide sanctions are having an impact on the economy and contributing to war fatigue.
The Washington Post sources in December said Russian oligarchs and Putin are increasingly at odds over the invasion of Ukraine and subsequent sanctions.
"There is huge frustration among the people around him," an oligarch with ties to other billionaires told the Post. "He clearly doesn't know what to do.
"He is in isolation, of course. He doesn't like speaking with people anyway. He has a very narrow circle, and now it has gotten narrower still."
Also, longtime ally Yevgeny Prigozhin has challenged the Russian Defense Ministry on slow-rolling weapons to the battlefield for his Wagner Group mercenaries hired to fight battles in the east and south of Ukraine.
Dissent against Putin is rare, but is growing, sources told the Post.
