Russia has lost 2,009 tanks and 48,700 military personnel since it went to war with Ukraine, the Ukraine Ministry of Defense said Friday.
The figures came in a post on Twitter.
The military officials tweeted: "In 190 days of full-scale war, the [Ukrainian Army] has destroyed more than 2,000 Russian tanks. The amount of metal needed for the production of this number of tanks would be enough to build 9 Eiffel towers. Now it's just scrap metal."
In another tweet, the Ukraine military officials estimated Russia has also lost:
- 4,366 armored combat vehicles.
- 289 multiple launch rocket systems.
- 153 air defense systems.
- 205 helicopters.
- 853 drones.
- 198 cruise missiles.
- 15 warships & boats.
- 3,247 vehicles and fuel tanks.
- 1,126 artillery.
- 234 military jets.
Newsweek noted it has not been able to verify those figures and said Russia rarely reveals its military losses.
The news outlet pointed out that a Russian general said on March 25 that 1,351 soldiers had died and 3,825 were wounded. In April, the U.K. government said Russia had lost about 15,000 military personnel.
