LIGNET: How the US Could Help Syria's Rebels

On Secretary of State John Kerry’s first trip as America’s top diplomat, allies complained noisily about the lack of U.S. action on Syria. The aid that Kerry announced the United States will provide to the rebels is not enough, they say: The United States needs to help the Syrian rebels defend themselves against the murderous Assad regime. This could mean arming the rebels. But there are a number of other ways the United States could ratchet up support for Syria’s rebels. The Obama administration may be considering which of these would pose the least amount of risk, while helping to bring the Syrian civil war to an end.
