Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., said President Joe Biden’s new nuclear deal with Iran includes a "quid pro quo" with Russia — clearing the way for Moscow to make billions of dollars, according to The Washington Free Beacon.

Issa, a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, made his comments after a classified briefing on the current state of negotiations on the nuclear deal. Issa would not discuss the details of the briefing.

However, he said it is obvious the administration will waive sanctions that have prevented Russia from building out certain portions of Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.

"Biden is managing to pull off an incredible feat: Help Iran go nuclear and help Russia get rich helping them do it," Issa told the Free Beacon. "No question about it. This is a quid pro quo the administration has negotiated with the Iranians and Russians that Biden intends to deliver by executive fiat."

The Free Beacon previously reported on Iran's $10 billion contract with a Russian state-controlled energy firm that will permit Russia to build new sections of Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant.

Sanctions put in place during the Trump administration stopped all work on the project. But sanctions would be lifted under the new deal.

The Associated Press reported that after 11 months of on-and-off talks in Vienna, U.S. officials and others say only a very small number of issues remain to be resolved in negotiating a new deal with Iran.

And the news outlet noted that Russia appears to have backed away from a threat to crater an agreement over Ukraine-related sanctions that had threatened prospects for a fast deal.

"We are close to a possible deal, but we’re not there yet," State Department spokesman Ned Price said last week. "We are going to find out in the near term whether we’re able to get there."
