The Israeli government has negotiated another blockbuster defense deal with the United States, but what is new about this deal is Israel’s unprecedented use of what are being called “bridge loans,” usually given by venture capitalists to technology start-ups. While the deal has the support of the Obama administration, it raises concerns about U.S. oversight and appears to be a way for Israel to obtain more military aid than agreed to under a 2007 pact.
