Obama to Israel: Stop Killing Iran's Nuclear Scientists

By    |   Monday, 03 March 2014 09:30 AM EST

The Obama administration has told Israel it's time to stop assassinating Iranian scientists involved in that country's nuclear weapons program, Dan Raviv of CBS News reported.

Raviv, who is coming out with a new edition of his book, "Spies Against Armageddon: Inside Israel's Secret Wars," said that the Israeli spy agency Mossad had anyway decided that further operations now would be too dangerous.

There have been at least five assassinations, which have taken place over a period of years, aimed at slowing down the progress of the weapons program and to discourage physicists and other skilled Iranians from joining the bomb making project, CBS reported.

On Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that "thousands of hours" of inspection, by the International Atomic Energy Agency has found no evidence that Iran is pushing for nuclear weapons.

On Thursday, Reuters reported that the IAEA had shelved a report that might have shed light on Iran's atomic bomb research, in order to avoid damaging the rapprochement between Tehran and Western nations.

Israeli officials are convinced that Tehran is seeking nuclear weapons and is using negotiations to stall for time before stopping just short of putting together all the necessary components of an atomic bomb.
