French Prime Minister Manuel Valls said the threat from terrorists is at its maximum level and predicted more attacks even though intelligence services are regularly preventing them from happening.

"Every day the intelligence services, the police and the military are preventing attacks, dismantling networks that are coming out of Iraq and Syria," Valls said on Europe 1 radio. "Today the threat is at its maximum and we're a target. Everyone gets that. This past week at least two attacks were stopped."

Security services are monitoring around 15,000 suspected radicals, Valls said. France has detained 293 people engaged in terror-networks since the beginning of the year, French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve said Saturday to AFP.

Police arrested three women Thursday night suspected of preparing a car-bomb attack. The arrests followed the discovery of a car containing five gas canisters parked near Paris' Notre Dame cathedral earlier this week.

An estimated 700 French citizens are involved with Islamic extremists in Syria and Iraq, including 275 women, Valls said Sunday.
