Switzerland: 600 Criminal Complaints Filed in VW Scandal

Thursday, 29 October 2015 05:22 AM EDT

GENEVA (AP) — Swiss prosecutors say that they have received some 600 criminal complaints related to the Volkswagen emissions-rigging scandal.

The federal prosecutor's office said Thursday that it has agreed with its state-level counterparts to handle all the complaints from private citizens itself rather than leaving them to local authorities to evaluate individually.

It said that complaints have been filed in seven cantons (states), with most coming from the country's French-speaking west, particularly from Geneva.

Prosecutors didn't give further details on what allegations the complaints make or on how they will proceed.

In neighboring Germany, Volkswagen's home country, prosecutors are investigating who was responsible for building software used to cheat U.S. emissions tests into millions of diesel engines.
