Breivik to Address Court in Human Rights Trial

Wednesday, 16 March 2016 06:20 AM EDT

SKIEN, Norway (AP) — Anders Behring Breivik, who killed 77 people in bomb-and-gun attacks in 2011, is set to take the stand on second day of his human rights case against the Norwegian government.

The 37-year-old right-wing extremist has sued the government, saying his prison conditions are "inhuman" and violate the European Convention Human Rights. The government has rejected his claims.

For security reasons the trial is being held in Skien prison where Breivik is serving his sentence for the July 22, 2011, attacks on the Norwegian government headquarters and a summer camp for left-wing youth activists.

After Breivik addresses the court, the judge and lawyers from both sides are set to inspect the high-security unit of Skien prison where Breivik is being held, isolated from other prisoners.
