BERLIN (AP) — A woman in Germany has been convicted of attempted manslaughter for stabbing a man at Munich's Oktoberfest after he uttered a racial slur at a former soccer player with whom she was attending the beer festival.
The Munich state court said the 34-year-old defendant — a Hamburg millionaire's fiancée — also was convicted Wednesday of causing bodily harm. She was sentenced to 4 ½ years in prison.
The stabbing happened in September after a truck driver allegedly used the slur against former Germany player Patrick Owomoyela and threatened the woman. She then stabbed him with a switch blade, causing life-threatening injuries.
The court rejected the defendant's assertion that she acted in self-defense.
