Great Britain is planning to test “coronavirus status certifications” soon to figure out if it is possible for the public to return to mass gatherings, The Hill reported on Sunday.

People attending these type of events - such as concerts, sporting events and nightclubs - this month and next - will need to be tested for coronavirus before and after going to the gathering, according to the plan, the Associated Press reported.

U.K. Sports Minister Nigel Huddleston said, however, that "the earliest pilots almost certainly won’t involve any elements of certification," and instead involve only testing before and after the event, according to AP

Coronavirus passports have been a controversial issue in the United States, as many Republican congressmen have rejected the idea as an invasion of privacy, according to The Hill.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said there are no plans at present for a federal requirement that individuals present vaccine credentials, nor will there be a centralized federal database.

But it was reported last week that White House and private companies are operating in tandem to develop a standard of vaccine credentials, with The Washington Post reporting that the plan will include free apps that could display a scannable code.
