Reports: Catholic Priest Crucified By ISIS on Good Friday

Monday, 28 March 2016 10:00 AM EDT

A Catholic priest kidnapped by the Islamic State (ISIS) is believed to have been crucified by the terror group on Good Friday, but there has been no official confirmation of the barbaric act as yet.

Father Thomas Uzhunnalil was grabbed March 4 in Yemen when heavily-armed ISIS soldiers stormed a shelter for the elderly run by the Missionaries of Charity, founded by Mother Theresa, The Daily Mail reports.

Fifteen people were killed in the massacre, including two nuns.

The killing of Uzhunnalil, a native of Bangalore, India, was confirmed by Christoph Cardinal Schönborn, the Archbishop of Vienna. But his church in Bangalore denied it.

The Washington Times reports his execution was carried out by the same method Romans used on Jesus Christ on Good Friday.

But there has been no confirmation from the Indian Government of the execution, according to London's Independent.

Over the past week, reports have circulated on social media that ISIS had planned to torture and then crucify Uzhunnalil, a Salesian priest.

The Franciscan Sisters of Siessen, a South African group, claimed in a Facebook post last week they had been told the priest was being tortured and that ISIS planned his crucifixion on Good Friday.

The post has since been deleted.
