Trafalgar/COS Poll: Voters Want Biden More Vocal Supporting Chinese Protests

A new Convention of States/ Trafalgar Group poll finds most Americans want President Joe Biden to be more vocal in supporting Chinese citizens protesting the regime's COVID-19 lockdown policies.

The poll of 1,085 likely general election voters found 49.5% want Biden to be more vocal in supporting Chinese citizens protesting the new wave of strict lockdowns there by a 2-1 plurality, with 19.8% responding that he should not be more vocal in his support.

Another 30.7% said they were not sure, according to the poll conducted Nov. 30 through Dec. 3 with a 2.9% margin of error.

"At a historic moment, when the Chinese people are pushing back against an authoritarian communist regime, the American people want to see strong leadership from the Biden administration, but instead they are getting tepid statements and political obfuscation," Mark Meckler, president of the Convention of States said Tuesday in a press release announcing the poll's findings. "The Chinese Communist Party's evil and appalling record of human rights abuses should make this an easy issue — the fact that Biden and his administration are struggling with how to respond is a demonstration on how far their party has fallen. The fact that half of Democrats are simply unsure, is likely because they are viewing this through a partisan lens, and due to the president's lack of clarity, they are unsure of the correct Democrat talking point to repeat."

Most Democrats responding to the survey, 50.2%, said they were not sure if Biden should show more support, with 26.2% saying he should not and 23.6% saying he should.

Among Republicans surveyed, 70.8% said he should be more supportive, with just 10.5% saying he should not and 18.7% saying they were not sure.

Unaffiliated respondents also favored a more vocal Biden by almost 2-1, with 53.2% wanting him more vocal compared to 24% saying he should not be, and 22.8% saying they were not sure.

Reuters reported Dec. 1 that the Chinese Communist Party is preparing to loosen dome of the recent restrictions and mandated mass testing for COVID-19 following widespread protests there in the last couple of weeks.

According to the report, regime health officials are easing strict protocols which included full-scale lockdowns in some areas, because it believes the ability for the virus to spread is weakening, while not mentioning the protests, the largest display of civil unrest in years.

"After nearly three years fighting against the epidemic, our country's medical and healthcare system has withstood the test," Vice Premier Sun Chunlan said in remarks published by the official Xinhua news agency. "The vaccination rate of the entire population exceeds 90% and public health awareness and quality has been improved significantly."
