Troubling questions are being raised about Mexico’s Federal Police following the supposedly accidental firing on two U.S. officials south of Mexico City who were later identified as CIA officers. The Mexican government claims it was an accident, and some evidence suggests this is plausible. But it’s also possible the cartels were behind the attacks and that the ‘Federales’ are not the reliable partners in the cross-border drug war that the United States thought they were.
