Prince Bandar bin Sultan, who served for 22 years as Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, was recently named the new head of Saudi intelligence, thrusting him into a position of broad authority from which he will surely work to strengthen the kingdom’s ties with the United States. The relationship between the two countries has perhaps never been more important than it is today, with the threat from Iran increasing and the situation in Syria deteriorating. Saudi Arabia is the United States’ most steadfast Arab ally, and on this relationship, the stability of the Middle East can be said to depend.
