'Coup' a Temporary Setback for Egypt's Islamists

LIGNET Intelligence Analysis — Yesterday's rulings by Egypt’s highest court that dissolved parliament and canceled the writing of a new constitution did appear, as many have commented, to be a “coup” by the interim military government. But they didn’t mark the end of Egypt’s revolution. The rulings were only a temporary setback for the Islamists. The Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate will likely win the presidential run-off election this weekend and new parliamentary elections will likely result, again, in domination by Islamists. Egypt's Islamists have taken a step back, but will now continue with their drive to take political power and remake Egypt as an Islamist state.
