CAIRO — Egypt’s presidential run-off election isn’t until mid-June. But the revolution, it appears, has already been lost, and the opportunity for democracy passed by. The likely winner of the election is Mohammed Morsi, the Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate. His election will mean that both the executive branch and parliament in Egypt are dominated by Islamists, who will likely reconsider the peace accord with Israel and turn Egypt into a strict Islamist state. The importance of this, to the United States, and to the stability of the Arab world, cannot be overstated.
