LAGOS, Nigeria (AP) — A Texas company says its helicopter carrying oil workers crash-landed into the lagoon in Nigeria's commercial capital, Lagos, and all 11 people aboard survived.

The controlled "water landing" comes six months after another chopper of Bristow Helicopters crashed in the same area, killing six of the 12 people on board.

Houston-based Bristow said the American-made Sikorsky S-76C++ had departed on a routine crew transfer and was returning from an offshore rig when it crashed Wednesday morning. Nine passengers and two crew members were rescued from the lagoon near traffic-choked Third Mainland Bridge, between Victoria Island and the mainland. The company did not give the nationalities of those involved.

It was not immediately clear what caused the pilot to choose an emergency landing.
