Burkina Faso: 1 Suspect Still on the Run after Armory Raid

Tuesday, 26 January 2016 09:17 AM EST

OUAGADOUGOU, Burkina Faso (AP) — Burkina Faso's army says one suspect remains on the loose following an armory raid last week that officials believe was carried out by members of a disbanded unit loyal to the former president.

Army spokesman Capt. Aziz Ouedraogo said a lance corporal from the former presidential guard was arrested Monday in Leo, a town 10 kilometers (6 miles) from Ghana's border.

Officials had already arrested 14 soldiers and one civilian linked to Friday's raid on the armory outside the capital, Ouagadougou. The army has identified one more soldier still on the run, though Ouedraogo said arrests could continue as the investigation progresses.

The presidential guard was loyal to Blaise Compaore, the longtime president ousted in an October 2014 uprising. It was disbanded after members staged a failed coup last September.
