The suspect — a Turkish gardener and handyman identified only by the initials “V.A.” — shot grandmother Cecilia Bury, 87, in the back, and her grandson Alex, 24, in the leg early Monday morning at the villa located at the resort of Dalyan on Turkey’s southwestern coast.
The gunman then pursued Catherine Bury, 56, up three flights of stairs. Then, news reports say, he shot off the lock of her bathroom where she was hiding and shot her to death using a pump-action shotgun.
The suspect had reportedly been arrested during the weekend following an argument at the house with Catherine Bury. But he was subsequently released, only to return later and allegedly carry out a revenge attack on three generations of the Bury family.
Television footage appeared to show a conscious Alex Bury as he was taken from an ambulance by stretcher into hospital where he was in a stable condition, authorities said. His grandmother was later discharged from the hospital after treatment.
The suspect later turned himself in to police. Neighbors described him as a handyman and gardener with a drinking problem who last year owned a boat running trips for tourists.
