Terror Suspect May Have Planned to Attack Tony Blair

A suspected terrorist in the United Kingdom had planned to attack former Prime Minister Tony Blair at his home, a report says.

Erol Incedal is on trial in London, accused of developing terror plots and possessing a document on bomb making. When taken into custody last September, police searched his black Mercedes and found a piece of paper with Tony and Cherie Blair's address on it, according to Breitbart.

The prosecution said that it remains unclear whether Incedal planned to attack a specific target or whether he might have stormed a property, "Mumbai-style," shooting indiscriminately.

"Count 1 does not suggest that Erol Incedal had settled on a specific target or a particular methodology but in the context of the case as a whole and the evidence that I am going to come to, you may think that this address does have some significance," Richard Whittam QC said, speaking for the prosecution, according to Breitbart.

Some parts of the trial will never be made public due to national security concerns.

Since the Islamic State (ISIS) advanced across Iraq in a series of territorial conquests, Blair has been outspoken about the need to combat the militant group, saying President Barack Obama was "absolutely right" to assemble a coalition.

He has said, however, that he believes air strikes will not be enough and that ground troops will be needed to defeat ISIS.

"There is real evidence that now countries in the Middle East are prepared to shoulder responsibility and I accept fully there is no appetite for ground engagement in the West," Blair said. "But we should not rule it out in the future if it is absolutely necessary."

Blair has also hit back at critics who have suggested that the 2003 invasion of Iraq partially led to the rise of the insurgents there.

"You can carry on debating about whether it was right or wrong what we did in 2003 but whatever had been done, you were always going to have a problem of deep instability in the region and in Iraq," Blair told Sky News in June.
