The provenance of the masked men sowing discord in southern and eastern Ukraine is coming into focus.

Referred to as "green men" and sleeper agents, they are members of an elite unit under the control of Russia's military intelligence agency, the GRU. They work indirectly, for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
