HELSINKI (AP) — Sweden's Royal Court says Crown Princess Victoria's newly born son and second child will be named Oscar Carl Olof.

The prince, to be known as the Duke of Skane, was born at Karolinska University Hospital in the Swedish capital on Wednesday evening. His father, Prince Daniel, who attended the birth, said that neither parent had known the gender of the child.

Prince Oscar is third in line to the throne after his mother and elder sister, Princess Estelle.

In 1980, Sweden changed the constitution to allow the eldest heir to inherit the throne, regardless of gender. Before that, female heirs were excluded.

Victoria's father, Carl XVI Gustaf, has been king since 1973. The Swedish royal family's duties are ceremonial with no political power.
