PARIS (AP) — French special-operations teams on Wednesday fought a ferocious gun battle at an apartment in the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis that killed Belgian-born Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the suspected architect of the Paris attacks.
During the hour-long gun battle, which started during a pre-dawn raid, police units including snipers threw grenades and fired 5,000 rounds into the apartment, prosecutors said.
Hasna Aitboulahcen, a 26-year-old woman who was Abaaoud's cousin, and a third unidentified person were also killed.
The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people.
Here are some images obtained by UK-based ITV News that were taken inside the apartment after the raid.
