THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) — Firefighters warned residents in the southern Dutch town of Geleen to shut their windows and doors Monday and schools were ordered to keep students indoors after a large fire at a chemical complex sent a plume of thick smoke drifting over the town.

Chemelot, an industrial complex that houses chemical companies, said on its website that the blaze broke out during work on the warehouse's roof.

The regional security coordination organization said there were no chemicals stored in the building hit by the fire and that no injuries were caused by the blaze or the smoke.

The security organization said three nearby railway stations and roads leading to the complex were closed amid the heavy smoke. It also ordered schools in several neighborhoods to keep pupils indoors.

Images on Dutch television showed a fierce blaze churning out thick, dark gray smoke at the complex, on the outskirts of the town 200 kilometers (120 miles) south of Amsterdam.

The local municipality sounded alarms and warned citizens to stay out of the smoke.

Monday's fire came just four days after a blaze at an ammonium plant located on the same complex.
